Great Lakes HSA has been advising companies from the first day HSAs were available. Few companies can make that claim.

Working with a HSA Expert
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

HSA Experts - Where did they all come from?

When we started Great Lakes HSA in the Fall of 2003, there was only one true HSA expert, Roy Ramthun, who was working at the US Treasury. Roy was the only person in America that you could truly call an HSA expert.
He was the main source for the knowledge we acquired over the first two years of business. Roy is now is President of HSA Consulting Services.

Fast forward to the summer of 2007, All of a sudden, every insurance broker or insurance consultant in the country became an "HSA Expert". Where did they all come from?

How did everyone become an expert in six months?

Insurance professionals might have 30 years experience working with employee benefits. But if someone hasn't been 100% devoted to HSA health plans over the last three years (like Great Lakes HSA), there is little chance they have accumulated the experience to be considered an "HSA expert" and provide you with accurate analysis to determine if a HSA is the best plan for your company.

We define a HSA expert as:

  • An individual who is well versed in section 223 regulations and the latest rules and IRS notices. Section 223 regulations govern HSA contributions & eligibility.
  • A HSA expert has designed, implemented and enrolled at least 50 groups over the last two years.
  • A HSA expert must have an expert level knowledge of each carrier's HSA plans and know the strengths and weaknesses of each plan.
  • A HSA expert has a thorough understanding of HSA providers and how the banking process works in conjunction with the health plan. The expert should have at least 500 individuals enrolled in a HSA style plan in the last two years.
